After the Harem tour I had said that next time I was going to get the front row tickets, but I decided against it. We decided that it is better to share this amazing experience with others, so we got the tickets for both of our families as an early Christmas gifts. Of course it was a surprise gift, and to make the story shorter my sister bought hers too, so we ended up wasting one $75 ticket due to the no refund policy. It was very sad. Next time, for sure, it will be just the two of us in better seats.
We started the evening by having my future in laws over for a home made dinner. Roman and I put lots of effort to make it special. We had a 3 course meal plus desert - all made from scratch. It was lots of work, and I am not sure that I can say that our minestrone soup was worth $35 that we spent on veggies, lol! Canned soup could have done the job just as well. The Piroskis with apples and cranberries were pretty yummy though! After we presented them with the surprise tickets, we left for the concert. I am sure they were relieved, because his mom thought that we were going to announce that we are pregnant since we kept everything such a mystery!
For some reason the concert was held in Everett, which is a city north from Seattle. We had gotten some snow over night, and streets were icy, so it took us awhile to get there. Parking was a nightmare. We got stuck in snow twice while circling to find a parking garage. Our seats were pretty decent - we got 29th row floor seats in the middle, but since they were not cascading rows like in movie theaters, it gets lame when you get someone tall in front of you. At least we were able to have a closer look at Sarah's face. I wasn't happy with the arena, because it did not have that special feel to it. You can see the stupid advertisements around the arena, and the seats were the fold up chairs. I wanted the Capitol theater feel: burgundy velvet seats, balconies, gold columns, and crown moldings. But I am such a spoiled Princess, he, he...
The concert started when the lights went off. Out of the darkness the dark blue lights came on, and the Sanvean instrumental started, which later on turned into the Gothica intro. A single silhouette walked onto the stage covered with layers of black tulle. It was very dark, and spooky looking. Some people thought that it represents Sarah's role in Repo Opera- Blind Mag. I have not seen the movie yet, so I couldn't tell. Two more less important (less tulle :) female silhouettes followed and helped Sarah reveal herself. As she did the lights came on, and Sarah came to life in the red beautiful dress. Contrast of colours was pretty dramatic. It was very fitting, and great way to start her Symphony concert. Actually, I am not good at explaining, so I will just steal other people's videos to show you...
Instead of having a unifying theme, Sarah divided her concert into few different segments. First chapter consisted of Fleurs du Mal, Symphony, and Let It Rain which she sang in the long red dress very similar to the one from her album cover, just with more cleavage. It was a theme from her Symphony album, she had the same gothic backgrounds projected onto the back mirror panel. In Let it Rain she had the virtual rain, which was very cool.
In the next chapter , Sarah transformed the stage into the nature. She was dresses as a cute little fairy- a very short white tutu dress with the long white cape, and white sparkly, what I call "bitch" boots (=boots from pretty woman) he, he... Don't you worry, I have my own pair too, he, he. She put herself in the background, she was alone, no dancers, and as she sang What a Wonderful World, Dust in the Wind, and Nella Fantasia, different nature scenes came to life all around her. I especially liked Dust in the Wind, with all the 3D butterflies, and fireflies all over the stage, and a solo guitar player on stage with her, which you will see now.
What followed next was a spectacular moment! She transformed the stage into aquarium for Hijo de la Luna. Thanks to the mirror effect, she appeared to be floating in the air, swimming in the water, her 8 dancers doing what it reminded me of synchronized swimming in a circle around her. It was amazing! Everyone gasped.
For next collection of songs, Sarah wore this crazy Moulin Rough Can Can dancer Mary Antoinette inspired dress with red corseted vynil thighs underneath. It is a Princess love story theme, except the Princess looked more like a french prostitute;)not that I mind, he, he. She did Anytime Anywhere. For next song-Storia d Amore, Sarah climbed on the top of the Princess on the Bean bed, which consisted of many cool looking mattresses, and sang the bedtime story to her dancers. In next song Canto Della Terra, her "prince"- Mario Frangoulis appeared, and they sang duet. He gave such an amazing, very powerful performance. I had goose bumps all over..
For next song Attessa she was still in the same dress, this time she climbed on the swing. Swing was not cutely made up as the one on Harem Tour. She got lifted high in the air, with her dress tail falling down still to the ground creating dramtic effect. As she sang the red rose petals were falling down all around her. That was her last song before break.
Twenty minutes later, she had on a long green slim dress in which she sang You Take My Breath Away and I Have Been This Way Before. Dancers were dressed in red with huge red balloons that they released at the end of the song. And with added red cape on, she did Phantom of the Opera with Mario, which again was pretty powerful.(My dad did not come to kill her, lol- FAMILY JOKE- My sister and I used to always sing Phantom, and this particular song always guaranted my dad coming up the stairs to shut us up!) As she sang those last notes, I though the whole ceiling will come down crashing, lol..
After that was a trippy part, Alice in Wonderland and Red Riding Hood intro (No idea what Alice in wonderland has to do with Red Riding Hood) followed by a very weird song that I never heard her do before, Red Riding Hood Rap which is basically her version of Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies in almost like Kate Bush way... it was really odd, and phycodelic. I am still in confusion about this. Sarah was dressed like Red Riding Hood riding a stationery bike singing a "rap song" on Tchikovky's masterpiece hm, it was definitevely... odd....Watch it! It did have cool bad wolves images with glowing eyes projected on each side of her that were chasing her, and as they got her, she disappeared off the stage.
After that she transformed stage into Christmas theme, and did First of May, and I believe in Father Christmas from her Winter Symphony album, followed with Ave Maria duet with Fernando Lima in a little good girl balerina dress.
I was little disappointed she did not do the Pasion with him, she just had him there for one song.
The last song Time to Say Good Bye she sang in the same outfit with the starry night as the background. When she came back for encore she was all goth out, she had the long black dress on with black wings, black background, no dancers, and she did Deliver me.
Very last song, Running was done again with halographic background. Spotlight was on Sarah, who was in the middle of the Earth. Dancers dressed in white dresses danced arounde her with long red ribbons.
She did wear another green dress, with crincled top and mermaid tail for one song, but I cannot remember which one, nor when. I just remember the dresses, lol. In next life I want to be Sarah Brightman- she has the such girlie outfits, he, he!!! Anyhow, I was happy with the concert. She sang beautifully, and overall gave the great performance. It did feel to me that it wasn;t as coherent. It almost seemed like she could not decide what she wanted to do, so it ended up being bits of everything. Obviously she did the fairy tale theme- Anderson's Princess on the Bean, and the Mermaid, Grimm's Red Riding hood, why she added Alice in Wonderland I have no idea. I thought that maybe she was going to do some music for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland movie, and this is going to be a little preview, but Elfman is doing it like always. I do not know, I was little confused. At least she should have continued the fairy theme, and done the Winter Symphony as a Snow Queen. It just seemed to me that if she wanted the Fairy story theme she should have saved it for the next time and done a superb job with it. For Symphony Tour I did expect to see her in that long red dress, so that was great. I also liked the black dress with wings. I was hoping that she would have more of the classical, elegant, but dark appearance. I was expecting the real choir in all white really long ghostly dresses surronded with fog, and smoke, maybe even hanging down from the celing like real ghosts, and the full orchestra in black, with exegurated long showdows in the background, conductor on steels maybe, and her in the long red, and white dresses with the dark gothic backgrounds from her album. Anybody else has any input???
